Emerald Coast Vacation Homes In Destin Florida

By Leanne Goff

Vacation homes in Destin Florida are strewn all over the place and it's really easy for all visitors to find one that's ideally suited to their needs. In fact, the entire Emerald Coast from Destin to Okaloosa Island and Fort Walton Beach is packed end to end with home rentals, condo resorts, cottages, etc. Travelers willing to expand their search a little bit in either direction can find even more properties on the way to Navarre or Miramar Beach.

The problem, obviously, is one of plenty. Not to put too fine a point on it, but it can be hard to choose since there are more than 70 communities in Destin alone where rentals are available. Travelers landing up here need to know a few things about the area in order to get the best bang out of their holiday budget.

The key is to find a good way to shortlist desirable properties and locations while weeding out the rest. For instance, start by making a choice between harbor-facing and ocean-front properties. Sticking to one of these two options allows travelers to look at a much narrower selection that's easier to check out in person or online.

A more detailed explanation might be helpful for gaining an understanding of how this works. The thing is that Destin is located on a peninsula that's jammed in between the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay. So visitors have the option of choosing either a property facing the harbor or one that's right on the beach sand, with nothing in the view except the emerald green waters of the Gulf beyond.

The rentals right on the beach sand at water's edge tend to be booked solid well ahead of time, especially for summer holiday stays. A last minute booking is well nigh impossible for these properties. The harbor-facing homes are more easily available and relatively affordable. Their location along Harbor Boulevard also happens to be quite convenient for drivers stopping by for a weekend stay.

Another option that threads the needle is a whole bunch of homes facing the Gulf a little distance away on the other side of Henderson Beach State Park. All this should be enough to provide a fair idea of the locations that need to be looked at. Pick one and find the best property in the preferred area.

The daily or weekly rent is no doubt a key issue. As far as facilities are concerned, most have all the usual stuff such as driveway parking for at least one vehicle. The kitchen will be fully equipped with dishes and utensils, cooking stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, etc. Commonly available amenities include Wi-Fi Internet, cable television, music system and DVD players, and pull out couches that allow more people to sleep in the home.

The differentiating factors that set the good properties apart include easy beach access and availability of garages, swimming pools, sun decks, and front and back yards for outdoor barbecues. Some also provide on demand maid service, cooks, nannies, drivers and other staff to make the stay a real holiday from the drudgery of daily life. Take into consideration all this when booking vacation homes in Destin Florida, and always book well ahead of time in order to get the best properties before they get sold out.
