Can A Collections Company Cite An Uplifting Student Loan Story?

By Rob Sutter

When it comes to the actions taken up by a collections company, I believe that student loans are one of the biggest focuses, if not the biggest in general. I believe that some of these cases are simpler than others, depending on how much effort graduates put into making these payments. While you may come across negative press on this subject, there are quite a number of uplifting stories as well. This was something that I picked up on thanks to one report in particular.

Business Insider reported on a University of Buffalo graduate who found himself in the same financial peril that many other graduates land in. Ken Ilgunas, who finished off his time at the school in 2005, had majored in English and History, which were two of the less marketable fields. This didn't sprout many job opportunities, so he had to make the $32,000 debt he was responsible for. Working at Home Depot at $8 an hour, it was not the most ideal situation for any recent graduate to be in.

This did not deter Ilgunas, though, as he moved to Alaska in order to make the payments easier by working at a truck stop. Since job opportunities were not exactly rampant, he decided to attend Duke University until the job market opened again. Considering that loans came about in a multitude of ways, he had to make a couple of conscious choices. Amongst them was living out of his van; once again, not the most preferred choice, but it was one that can easily be considered humbling.

When it comes to putting forth the payments due as quickly as possible, I'm sure that agencies along the lines of Rapid Recovery will agree that this action is very important. Debt is easily one of the biggest problems in the world today and there should be more methods taken up in order to keep the problem from becoming too massive. Yes, there may be a sacrifice or two made in one's life but I think that these are for the best. I'm sure that a collections company will see the actions taken by Ilgunas and support them as well.

It's easy to assume that every story regarding student debts is a negative one; trust me, there aren't many that speak well of it. However, what about those which talk about the efforts of graduates who want to pay off the amounts that they owe? Ilgunas has definitely showcased this and he's definitely gained quite a bit of praise from those who have read the report. It's one that I recommend just about anyone take the time to read through, for inspiration if nothing else.
