The Case For Bringing LED Lighting Into Your Office Space

By Edward Bell

Outdated or inadequate lighting can hurt your business in more ways than one. So if you're planning to renovate your Des Moines office space, lighting is one of the first things you'll need to upgrade. With more businesses choosing LEDs over other lighting solutions, perhaps it's time you learned of the benefits they could bring to your workplace.

One of the reasons why LEDs are considered superior to regular energy-saving fixtures is the fact that they provide instant lighting. While these fixtures hit 100% brightness as soon as you switch them on, CFL and HID lamps are notoriously slow in this area, with the latter taking up to 3 minutes. This makes LEDs the perfect option for those looking to replace incandescent lamps without trading their convenience.

In most cases, LED lights will comfortably run on a low-voltage power supply. This means you could power them using a solar-energy source and henceforth reduce your reliance on the national grid. It's worth stressing that LEDs don't sacrifice brightness to make this possible, which is perhaps why they're commonly used in outdoor lighting situations.

It's not until the advent of LED technology that you'd see lighting fixtures being praised for their durability. While it's true that fluorescent lamps are more reliable than filament-based incandescent bulbs, their glass construction still makes them fallible to harsh treatment and extreme weather. By contrast, LEDs are solid devices that utilize semiconductors rather than filaments or vapor. This rugged construction means their lifespan is hardly ever affected by physical impacts or extreme temperatures.

The average LED produces about 70% less heat than a CFL with the same power rating. This translates to a dramatic decrease in electricity costs, with more savings to come thanks to a better-performing air conditioner. Since it will no longer have to take on a colossal heat load, the system will start consuming less energy, all while keeping the indoor climate more comfortable.

Switching to LED lighting when remodeling your space could result in a substantial rise in the productivity of your workers. This is partly because these lights can be combined in any shape to produce efficient illumination, but more due to their dimming capabilities. Simply put, no other solution compares to the ability of light-emitting diodes to allow continuous dimming when shifting between different illumination levels.

Whereas fluorescent lights contain mercury and other hazardous substances, almost all the materials used in the production of LEDs are 100% recyclable. Upgrading to the latter will thus save you from having to pay for special disposal procedures at the end of the product's useful lifespan. What's more, you'll effectively have placed your firm at the forefront of sustainability in an era where it's becoming increasingly important.

It's important to highlight that LEDs start delivering their benefits as soon as they're installed. So don't waste too much time agonizing over the cost of switching. The sooner you do it, the less time it will take for the expense to pay for itself, paving way for more benefits over the long term.
