You might need a referral to see a specialist depending on your condition and plan. This plan guarantees a lower out of pocket cost compared to POS and PPO plans.

POS or Point of Service resembles in HMO but has added services which you can access. Through this enhanced coverage, more medical conditions are covered. When visiting a specialist, the plan requires you to have a referral. Though the plan costs more than HMO, it is cheaper than PPO.

Preferred Provider Organization is what is abbreviated as PPO plan. It also provides coverage beyond the basic or universal plans. It is considered more expensive than other plans within its range. A referral is not mandatory when visiting a specialist. This plan will lower your out-of-pocket expenses and is therefore lower compared to what other providers of similar packages offer.
