Why It May Be Important To Hire A Public Insurance Adjuster

By Jennifer Morgan

Most people strive to advance in life. To this end, they save, they deny themselves many pleasures and they work very hard. All this to build up a solid foundation of wealth that will benefit the family for years to come. Sensible people realize that catastrophe can strike at any time and they therefore make sure that their assets are properly insured. The risk is carried by the insurers, but they have also learned that many of their clients are charlatans. This is where a public insurance adjuster can be very valuable.

The assurance industry is gigantic and complicated. They safeguard properties worth billions upon billions. This is one of the main reasons why modern policies have become such complex documents. Unfortunately, many ordinary people never study their policies in detail or they fail to get advice if they are not sure about the meaning of a particular clause. This frequently results in claims being denied or in lesser settlements offered.

Professional adjusters are not agents for specific insurers. They are independent professionals that are held in very high regard throughout the industry. Most of them have formal qualifications in management, finance, architecture or surveys. In addition, they need years of practical experience. They need to apply for a license in order to practice and these licenses are only issued under very strict conditions.

Most professional adjusters will not handle cases that deal with everyday claims such as housebreaks, stolen cars and the like. The focus solely on claims that have to do with damage to or the loss of properties and the other claims that will flow forth from that damage or loss. These are almost always very complicated claims and they involve very large amounts. Both insurers and claimants often use adjusters.

Claims are routinely denied due to many different reasons. In many cases, the denial is based on the fact that the claimant is claiming for something that is not covered by his policy. This often causes anger and resentment. When purchasing a policy, it is always a good idea to ask a professional to make sure that the policy provides adequate cover to the policy holder.

When adjusters accept a case, they manage the entire claim process. They will study the terms of the policy, compile the claim, gather all supporting documents, submit the claim and follow up with the insurance company. Adjusters are normally able to finalize claims rather quickly, mostly because insurers hold them in such high regard. This often makes the cost of hiring a professional more than worthwhile.

Most claims of this nature also include separate claims for loss of income, the cost of paying for temporary accommodations, the cost of clearing the building site and many other losses. The loss of or damage to property almost always have a chain reaction of other losses. Realistically estimating these losses requires expert knowledge and lots of experience. Adjusters are totally unbiased and they simply strive to achieve a fair deal.

There can be no doubt that adjusters have a valuable role to play in the underwriting industry. They help claimants to get a fair deal and they similarly help insurance companies to avoid paying fraudulent claims. Their high fees are certainly worth every penny when considering the stakes involved.
