Entrepreneurs, Small Businesses And A SBA Loan Officer

By Ruth Bailey

When it comes to creating a small business, individuals often need acquire a Small Business Administration loan. There are many different areas in which individuals working for the agency specialize. One of which is that of a SBA Loan Officer whom helps connect those looking for a loan with government backed lenders.

While the SBA has a lot to offer these entities, there are strict guidelines which must be followed with regards to the loaning and distribution of funds. While the main responsibility of the agency is to assist entrepreneurs and small businesses, there are also other ways in which the agency helps individuals and others.

The primary purpose of the agency is to assist start-ups run smoothly in a number of ways. Local counties and governments can also benefit from the agency when looking for funds to aid in recovering from a natural disaster. The activities in which the agency is involved is often referred to as the 3Cs, the 3Cs being capital, contracts and counseling.

In all cases, the administration provides a government backed guarantee with regards to repayment of a loan. While this is the case, the government is only required to pay back 90% of the debt. After which, if the business does not repay the government, the government can acquire the business due to a breach of contract and default of payment. In most cases, businesses which are acquired by the U. S. Government due to these issues are often auctioned off as a method of gaining money to repay the debt.

Other duties of the SBA include, assisting small minority owned businesses by awarding government contracts such as those related to the Department of Defense and others which are generally awarded to large corporations. As a result, there are often a number of minorities whom receive work. For, when a small business acquires a contract, there is often a need to hire more workers.

Another area in which the SBA provides assistance is through counseling at a number of upper-level institutions. For, there are a number of grants and scholarships available to students whom are interested in entrepreneurship or working with small businesses. In many cases, those whom have taken advantage of these opportunities have become some of the most successful business people in the world.

The SBA has faced a number of obstacles and challenges since inception. For example, different administrations have often pushed for the closure of the agency. While this is the case, with the help of citizens, local governments and universities whom spoke up against those threats, the agency survived. After which, in 2010 the SBA was approved and received funds in what was the largest budget ever granted since the agency was formed in the 1950s.

Now, once again threatened of elimination, entrepreneurs and small businesses need to speak up so that the U. S. Congress and House of Representatives can once again attempt to stop the closure process. For, otherwise, the agency may not live to assist future entrepreneurs and small businesses in the future as it has been able to do in the past.
