Finding Bargains At San Francisco Bay Area Estate Sales

By Catalina Nielsen

Shoppers are getting some excellent deals by attending San Francisco Bay Area Estate sales. This type of sale is usually an exciting event. There are many different types of items on sale. They can range from household goods and ornaments, all the way to cars, boats and tractors. On occasions even livestock may be offered for sale.

Estate sales are a fast and efficient way to dispose of the contents of a house. They are often used by families who have inherited a home from an elderly relative. Trying to tackle a huge sorting and clean up project is very daunting. It can be especially difficult for those who live some distance away, or anyone not in good health.

Finding a local sale should be quite easy. Most are listed in the newspapers as well as being advertised on line. For a big sale there is usually a catalogue. This will describe the principle lots in great detail and give a guide price. Sometimes an auction is held. The seller usually hopes that the bidding will drive up the prices and get them a better deal. If there are big items like cars, boats or trailers this can be an excellent strategy.

Smaller items such as glass ware, vases and china are typically listed individually. For example, a complete dinner set will be priced higher than odd dishes, cups or bowls. However, it is still possible to pick up some great buys. Some of the collectors items are of excellent quality and can add a beautiful touch to any home.

A successful estate sale must also be well organized and properly advertised. The more people who attend, the better the prices. There is also the potential to sell a lot more stuff. The company will usually agree upon a percentage split with the owners. It is in everyone's best interests to have a good turn out and realize some higher prices on the better items.

Private buyers can also pick up some wonderful items, sometimes at bargain prices. One of the most important things to remember is not to overpay for anything. Often buyers get carried away bidding on an item. Afterwards they realize it is not as valuable as they originally thought. Taking along an experienced friend is a good idea. They can tel the buyer if the item really is valuable or not.

Those who are shopping for fun can pick up some great little bargains too. Something as simple as a table lamp or rug can be purchased for a few dollars. Many people find some wonderful artwork to add to their collections.

San Francisco Bay area estate sales are both fun and exciting. Buyers never know what they are going to stumble upon. Even if they go with the intention of looking for a certain piece, they may well come home with something completely different.
